As you could read on the blog below this one, the first band up was E.T, who did a more than decent job. I enjoyed listening, even though all of us felt that the sound was for once actually a bit too amped. It wasn’t bad sound, just very LOUD! This was actually the truth for most of the evening.
We were 5 girls around our standing table who were losely connected here tonight, all frequent LIVE House audience, and who chatted some in between the bands, who all agreed… it was LOUD!
The bands (in order of stage appearance) were:
Out of these 5 bands DAZZLE! (Top photo) were, in my opinion, the best band this evening.
NOT because the other bands are necessarily less skilled or not good enough.
Grace Period for example is a great band, and have over this past winter really evolved! They have gone from what I found to be OK in the fall, to really getting it together as a band! Good sound, good songs and good enough for me to play on my iPod ever so often.
BUT Dazzle plays my kind of music! The music I listen to these days over and over on my iPod. A band I would pay to hear more of, buy more of, support, and a band I feel, that since I heard them the very first time, gives me that WOW feeling... the kick…
I bought their CD “Inside my Piece” this night and I have pretty much played it since then.
On their Facebook page they describe their music as “INDUSTRIAL THRASH GROOVE”
They do have some electronic grooves yet are heavy at times.. a bit like a Japanese version of Rammstein but yeah yet another kind impact maybe…Japanese Industrial Trash with Groove really explains their sound quite well.
Their Facebook page is here:
https://www.facebook.com/damagefactorydazzle
and you can listen to them here:

and a youtube example (not my video) is here:

Endroit (left photo in second row)
I dont have much to say about them. Their Vocalist takes up the whole mental space and mental stage, and obviously desires to do exactly that. Personally I just cannot see the point with caressing yourself on stage when you are a rock vocalist, but maybe it works for some….
Either way their music isn’t bad, just not spot on hitting my personal music vibe and preference.
When I did some research tonight I could not find anything under ‘Endroit’, but reading closer on Live house pages I found a parenthesis stating:
ex MAGIER SEXALICE… so by taking that into search I found their [fan made]
Facebook page:

under it was more info such as Myspace link:

Maybe this hints in the direction on the name change? Will need to look into this at a later point….
Next band; Rabbit of Labyrinth (no photo)
is harder for me to write about. I had problems with the vocalist. I actually noticed this with myself that there are few female vocalists I like in Japan.
It’s something about their pitch, or maybe the all too common vocal technique, that maybe is too unfamiliar to me or too ‘strange’ for me personally. I have a hard time enjoying vocals like these.
I found a Youtube video, so instead of trying to explain in words or shove my opinion down your throats, why don’t you go and listen and make up your own opinion?!
http://youtu.be/DYW-k-d1HEY
The last band of the evening though - grace period has no such issues…
They are straight forward ROCK from stage and with a web site that is easy to find…
http://graceperiod.jp/
Eisuke (vocals) was as energetic on stage as always and is quite a good performer who really WORKS it!
So does bassist YOU , 森下フミヤ ( Fumiya Morishita) on Drums and
大舘 義直 ( Yoshinao Otachi) on Guitar. Especially I want to add, as I wrote above,
grace period have really evolved over this winter and spring. Most noticeable beside the sound quality and music, is that they are now, ALL four of them, working the stage a lot better and giving the audience a great performance.
By all means go and give them a ‘like’ on their Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/graceperiod.official
I got their latest Single and yes I like it!!
池袋 手刀 Ikebukuro Chop Friday May 18 LOVELESS TOKYO
First band up this Friday was E.T
They did a great job. Maybe not so good yet as I wanted to buy their CD but definitely they played well enough for it to be worth my time!
This is their web site. I could not find any videos on youtube…

熊のジョン at 新宿 URGA
I really enjoyed the performance by these professional musicians. In my opinion clearly the best band this night. Last guitarist was also very skilled but this was in my opinion a ‘fuller’ music feeling/experience.
Nanbu’s drumming is a great show in itself with his hair flying wild when he drums. If someone of you readers are thinking of producing a movie with a drummer in it… this one would be the perfect one for the visual effects!
If you want to see him for yourself his web site with schedule is here:
http://hp.did.ne.jp/nanbuteruhisa/
Akira on bass is also definitely worth your time, if you decide to go see them live. Actually the band played as a unity, and all three are very skiled professional musicians.
宇宙蜂 at 新宿URGA 05-17-2012 琵琶

Bands this night were
■くのいちジンコク

■熊のジョン
■岸本淳一+植村昌弘

Second of くのいちジンコク might not be the best quality wise but please check out the drummer… He was really at it and made vocal sounds, while drumming, matching his looks. Maybe this look is something for the VK bands out there to pick up on?
The girls did ok; the bassist was maybe not totally ready for stage performance yet, but that’s why live house gigs like these can be good as well. Practice makes perfect.
Free Public WiFi in Tokyo…
IMPORTANT Find very close to Shinjuku station… for all of you out there who want to avoid roaming charges, or without Japanese wifi subscription..
FREE WIFI at Cafe de BORE right next to ‘Alta’ by Shinjuku JR East Exit.

LIVE gigs are FUN… but sometimes the other side of this business has to be done too!
As some of you know, soon this blog will be part of a bigger venture:
“the Pink Spider Web”
and well it takes time and time and time… and coffee… YES, tons of COFFEE, but also a Bailey’s sometimes.
Creativity is always part of the process, even while doing administrative paper work!
The BEST coffee in Tokyo, you will find here at my favorite Café -
Coffee Crevice in Sangubashi, Shibuya ku…
http://tokyo-dokan.jp/sangubashi/shop07.html
Tomorrow, May 16th, I will go and do some much needed shopping in Shimokitazawa, but then Thursday is another LIVE gig!
Never Ending Story…. it is 6 am and I am about to eat some dinner, or is it lunch or breakfast… who knows, it’s meal time !
Akasaka BLITZ - Stylish Wave Generation Vol.2
As strange as it might seem, this was my first ever visit to Akasaka BLITZ!
The focus for me, as you might know, is more to go to LIVE houses and see unknown, or lesser known, bands.
Sometimes however I DO go to concerts like these, because I really LOVE the music and there is always a certain guarantee that it will be GOOD..even Awesome!
It’s hard to not have expectations set too high though, and on my way there I was even thinking…
-“why did I choose to go here instead of attending Vagu*Projects LIVE at 浦和ナルシス (Urawa Narciss)?”
After all I miss Narciss… it has given me soo many nice LIVEs and I have hardly been there at all since I got back to Japan April 8th.
This is at least partially due to the fact that Vagu*Project have been playing elsewhere. According to Vagu*Project’s schedule it doesn’t look like they will be playing there again before I leave for Europe end of June either…. (T.T)
So back to BLITZ and Stylish Wave Generation Vol.2
Akasaka Blitz is a venue similar to ‘Zepp’ in terms of capacity. They both take about 1500 people.
http://www.tbs.co.jp/blitz/
It’s really easy to get to BLITZ from Akasaka Station, which is on the Chiyoda Line.
A station often referred to as TBS-mae (TBS= Tokyo Broadcasting Systems )
As always with venues like these, there is no photography allowed… which I have by now wined enough about. It prevents me from really giving you an accurate sense of the atmosphere, and to share a glimpse of the awesome music.
BUT I will give you plenty of links in this blog, so you all can go and check these bands out on Youtube, Facebook and their official homepages online.
First band up was Penicillin.
It is always tough to be first on stage. The audience is not yet ‘warmed up’ and it is pretty much your job to do it. I guess that in itself can be rewarding, as you can sense the excitement develop.
Penicillin is a band I like. Maybe not on my top 10 list, but they are good. The singer, HAKUEI, has a vocal style a tad reminiscent of Kiyoharu’s (Kuroyume). At Blitz, he was also sporting a red hat, which I could clearly see Kiyoharu wearing as well. Well, he is pleasing to the eyes LOL the Visual part is important you know LOL
I really liked his hairstyle too. Which is similar to the way he has it in the “Dragon Hearts” Video (see below) minus the braids. Instead the “long hair side” of his head (right side) had a lot of white in it.
Bottom line: he looked rather cool! And I think LOOKS, the visual impact, SHOULD be an important part of Visual Kei, else it’s just [Rock] Music.
Here is the video with them:
http://youtu.be/9EXhkFp1xVU
which I think illustrates that Kiyoharu resemblance well.

DNR:
First off a note: Photo of DNR above is NOT mine, but from their Official FB page. Link below.
Next up on stage at BLITZ: DNR, and if it is tough to be the first band up, it must also be very tough to be a foreign band on an event like this.
First of all I’m amazed at especially Axia’s (Vo.) ways of dealing with this. He commanded that stage as if he has always been a member of a Japanese band, knowing how to get a Japanese audience, like this one, going. He directed with his hands, had a stage presence and worked the stage in very similar manners, as any other [Japanese] VK vocalist would have done. Well done you!
Also the daring activity of pulling an X Japan cover in Japan went very well! He did an outstanding vocal effort with ‘Tears’ , which isn’t easy either.
The band was enhanced this night with Yu Phoenix from Germany on guitar. Former guitarist of the band “Cinema Bizarre“
Over all the band did great, and I think many in the audience were intrigued and want to know more about them. Kira’s flirting with the audience (he literally kneeled down from stage and ‘met’ them).
I felt a certain European connection, and was happy to inform the audience around me about DNR and who is who in the band. I understand enough Japanese to over hear them talk and speculate and discuss the band, so I took the opportunity to tell the little I know about DNR: Hopefully soon I will know more. Don’t think this was the last time I saw them.
I think their success would have gone even further, had they been later in the program, because the audience feed back is soo important for how the whole experience is for everyone. When Alice Nine was up on stage (last band up), the crowd was already fired up and it sure makes a huge difference. Anyway I’m sure DNR made a good enough impression this evening to be more than welcome back to Japan.
One more to applause goes to Seba!
and his skills of handling the MC
AWESOME Seba!
Not just for speaking Japanese and having the audience smile and laugh but for doing it so well!!
And actually I also want to admit after seeing hundreds of images of Seba, everywhere online I must say that he looks and seems, much more charming IRL,
and that doesn’t mean that the photos of Seba are bad… on the contrary, he is a true model BUT IRL …smiling and acting on stage he also comes across as very charming.

then Royz:
I have seen Royz before but now I cannot for the love of my life find any files on my computer.. Need to take a big long vacation at some time, when the time can just FREEZE, so I can use a week to rename some files on my computer… ha ha ha
Anyway, I really like these guys.
Why?
Because for me they are truly VISUAL in the Visual Kei part. They are Visual Kei anno 2012
They sparkle both literally and emotionally. Making me smile from the floor!
and Here they are on stage with vocalist Subaru (Vo.) having a broken tibia.
The tibia or shinbone,is the larger and stronger of the two bones in the leg below the knee in vertebrates and connects the knee with the ankle bones.
The results of the test tibia fracture right leg. He wrote about it in his blog here:
http://ameblo.jp/royz—subaru/page-6.html#main
Shin, HeavensDust, with a broken collar bone, YuI, Vagu*Project, with severe neck and back pain, and now here Subaru, Royz...
These guys certainly don’t stop going on stage, they have this passion and determination to GIVE YOU their all, their everything, their passion, their music…
no matter what!
And did Subaru show any sign of lesser performance ability?
ABSOLUTELY NOT!
He and Royz rocked that stage!
And as I wrote above when Alice Nine later entered the stage, the audience was already fired up and very excited. Personally I think it was when Royz did their part of the show, that the audience really woke up!
And yes Royz should definitely receive the appreciation for doing that!
Part of the whole night’s excitement, joy and good feelings over all, is that sense of being part of something exciting and passionate as ONE UNITY
both from the stage perspective and from the audience point of view. It is ONE thing going on, and it is that magic interplay between Musicians and Audience;
and when it peaks it is
pure AUDIORGASMIC FUN!

葵 & 涼平 Aoi and Ryohei
It is always difficult balancing act to write about several bands performing at one big event. Recalling the long blog about my feelings after VRock at Saitama, I received some negative feed-back for not writing positively about ALL bands at the VRock Festival.
OK so music appreciation is truly subjective… and yes I, like everyone else, have preferences and yes, it does happen that I go to a concert and not necessarily like everything I hear. Often I choose not to even write anything about such bands, but to avoid doing so here would look kind of awkward. One band left out… why?
so… that said…
Next band up, 葵 & 涼平 , was obviously appreciated by many in the audience, but not necessarily by me personally. I cannot say that they did bad, were off key or anything specific like that… just not my bag…They didn’t manage to hit a vibe in me…
I felt as if they merely were happy about being on stage .. which of course is a good thing in itself., but musically I felt as if something was lacking. A depth, something of their own, just something wasn’t there for me.
They did however manage to maintain the audience upbeat spirit, and even amplify it. Actually I felt as if this was something they were really good at, more than really having something to contribute with musically. It didn’t really help that some of their fans that we had around us in the crowd, acted like real bitches. Excuse my language, but yeah they were….Rude, long hair and looong nails is a very bad combo for jumping like crazy and even up on the railing that compartmentalizes the floor in different sections.
I was on the verge on calling security on them, and I noticed I was NOT alone in thinking it… hmmm..
Maybe this made me sound like a boring party pooper, but no I am really tolerant to jumping, dancing and head banging and what not, but I am not tolerant when it comes to hurting people around you on purpose, and then not stopping after several people have both told you to please constrain yourself a lot because you are in fact hurting people. We shouldn’t judge the band by their fans at all, but maybe maybe it did affect my feelings just a tad….
OK I suggest you all go and listen for yourself if you want to figure them out and give them a fair chance without my idea about them.
Here is their Website:
http://www.avexnet.or.jp/ar/index.html
and a fan made FB page mostly in Spanish…
https://www.facebook.com/AoiyRyohei
Now the last two bands are already very well known and probably not new to anyone of you…. Girugamesh and Alice Nine...
That however doesn’t make it any less difficult for me to write about them.
I really like both of them, and I think both of these bands are bands that truly are best LIVE , even thought they are great on my iPod as well… they are AWESOME Live.
ギルガメッシュ- Girugamesh/Girugämesh
named after King Gilgamesh (5th king of Uruk abt 2500 BC, modern day Iraq) I really don’t know why they have a named their band after a Mesopotamian mythological demigod… so please if anyone of you know more about this, please enlighten me…
I really like Japanese Music, but don’t know enough about anime, manga, or Japanese popculture so maybe there’s a connection there that I have missed?!
Anyway Girugamesh always ROCK the stage. So also tonight. \m/
Everyone was jumping up and down and YES it was wild (but no more bitches ha ha ha)…
and Satoshi and the others sure worked the stage but well I and Phoe-Lo agreed:
-This was not their over all best performance we have seen. They didn’t look tired or anything, and they were really working it but they weren’t as ‘radiatingly’, charismatically transmitting as I like to see them. There was a certain transmitting energy missing…
Musically though I like them A LOT!!
..and only Alice Nine beat them musically, when it comes to my personal preferences from the selection we were served this ‘Stylish Visual Kei Wave Night….’
Probably because in my opinion Alice Nine totally NAILED their performance!
Sounded heavier than I expected them to, and just gave me that WOW feeling I expected to get already by Girugamesh.

This was one long blog about bands performing at Akasaka BLITZ, an evening that went way too fast! (T.T)
What came out from it from me was:
YES, I want to see Alice Nine again soon and hope they will keep this somewhat heavier sound. They nailed it!
YES, I was very happy to see DNR live and happy to see a European band on a Japanese stage do so well.
YES, Girugamesh is good, even when not doing their very BEST, they are professional and awesome musically.
YES, I really wish Royz the best in the near future and want to see them again
Coming up this week is another night at Urga, this time WITH CAMERA !!! and a band called 熊のジョン and
Friday I will be at 池袋手刀 Ikebukuro Chop for
grace period
and beside the cool guys in grace period following bands:
Rabbit of Labyrinth
Endroit
E.T
DAZZLE
All for now (^.-)
赤坂BLITZ Stylish Wave Generation Vol. 2 , May 13th, 2012
YES, I am working on the blog from last night…but
starting a little backwards (as I tend to do sometimes) After the Visual Kei Live
with the great line up of
Penicillin, DNR (from Italy), Royz, 葵 & 涼平, ギルガメッシュ (Girugamesh)
and Alice Nine
Phoe-Lo and I went to take the Tokyo Metro home.
And just like after VRock fest at Saitama and after many other bigger concerts, you see band members handing out flyers to the departing audience. This audience is also their own target group..so…
I’m always impressed by bands who are out there themselves, putting their name out, doing the leg work, and last night outside BLITZ in the Tokyo metro were band members from 2 bands handing out flyers.
Triggah
http://triggah.jp/pc/index.html
and
Naine
http://naine.jp/top.html
I will try to go to their lives.
‘Naine’ has a few clips on their website that sounds ok,
and I liked what I just listened to on Youtube by ‘Triggah’, ..
for ex
http://youtu.be/I7TEzWHhfVI
I just think this shows dedication and passion for what they do, plus I think it’s a smart way of marketing. At Lives in Live houses you get drowned by posters and flyers all bundled up in a big giant pile that don’t even fit in my quite big purse (Which in itself is a pain to carry around ha ha )
and I would probably be able to fill a whole closet with flyers by now…
Same at BLITZ last night, got a big plastic bags with flyers and stuff… and honestly I rarely go through it ALL, but meeting someone like this,
handing out their own stuff.. I definitely take time and look at it!
May 26th ‘Triggah’ at 池袋 EDGE
and ‘Naine’ May 21st coincidently at the same place
http://edge-ikebukuro.com/201205.html
Might not be able to do both (Monday 21st might be a little tricky schedule wise)
but I will try.
If anyone of you know more about any of them please let me know…
MUCC - it took a little while for my Fan Club membership card from MUCC to find me…
5 months to be exact LOL
Well it came in time because I need 6-9 (June 9th) when it’s time for MUCC’s 15th anniversary LIVE

CUTT @cuttjapan and taka video from CUTT-san’s Youtube channel “cuttube01”
タカット de SHOW!! vol.3 ダイジェスト
As much as this gives an idea of the similar event I wrote about below (Friday May 11 at Shimokitazawa RéG)
… it doesn’t truly do their voices, nor their music, justice.
Reality by far beats this video (no offense to CUTT this video is perfectly fine!!),
BUT it definitely gives you an idea!
AND it definitely shows the smiles, the charisma and the fun these to artists radiates in all they do.
I like stuff they do together… I really do!
CUTT’s own comment to this video is:
This is a digest movie of “TAKUTT de SHOW vol.3” performed by TAKA (defspiral / Montage.) and CUTT.
CUTT @cuttjapan and Taka @TAKA_defspiral at
下北沢 RéG May 11th, 2012
Montage. / CUTT / タカット / (O.A).(ドット)
The two awesome artists which you can watch below here on blog from Youtube clips,
went on stage together Friday May 11 in Shimokitazawa.
First of all I want to really recommend Shimokitazawa if you come to Tokyo for a visit.
It has a great ambience and plenty of relaxed shopping, dining, and music to choose from.
This was my first visit to RéG and first off I want to commend the venue. This venue was one of the few I have been to with proper and GOOD lighting for the stage. It really makes a huge difference when as audience you actually get the light on the people ON the STAGE ,and not blinding you in the face.
Honestly I think this is the first time here in Japan that I felt that Lighting was good and even very good.
Even places like Zepp or other semi big venues, like the next size up, have failed in this regard if you ask me.
Lights this friday were at times plain awesome, and Taka and CUTT looked their very best! Sometimes with subtle hindlight making their presence looks almost magical.. which for the kind of songs they did was absolutely superb!
So if you are a venue owner… all of you that I have been visiting to so far you FAILed.. and can mention a few where I have been .. Otsuka Red Zone, Urawa Narciss, Shinjuku Wild Side, Shinjuku Live Station, Ruido K3, Ruido K4, IIkebukuro Black Hole… oh no let’s stop here…ha ha ha this list would be too long if I wrote down all venues U have bveen to in Japan… you get the idea….
ALL of you go visit 下北沢 RéG and learn proper lighting on stage!!
✿ڿڰۣ(̆̃̃ღ ღ(̆̃̃ڿڰۣ✿
Sound was really good too and both Taka’s and CUTT’s voices are world class so again, I was very happy that sound was giving that deep depth in Taka’s voice and the amazing span that is CUTT’s.
the evening was split in sections with first an Opening Act.. They were quite ok and did a great job, but not my bag and had nothing of their own so to speak. They sounded like so many other bands I have heard, and seen, live here in Tokyo, so even if they did good, it’s hard to remember their individual songs…
According to RéGs web site their name is ドット
RéGs site is here btw
http://www.reg-r2.com/
After the O.A. CUTT went on stage and stage personae and charisma from the stage is very contagious. His voice has a lovely span and he is also very skilled in amplitude changing which creates very good dynamics in his songs. Of course he pulled a winner out with Time Machine and both I and the rest of the audience love that song.
Since photography was not allowed… it is so extremely difficult to tell the world in only words about MUSIC. Actually it is almost impossible..
it is sad on sooo many levels that the artists cannot be heard outside that moment for those of us lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time. CUTT’s music is not available on the American iTunes or amazon either.
At a quick search tonight I could unfortunately not find it on CDJapan either..
His youtube channel has some BUT it is not the same to see him sit on a chair and play, no matter HOW good it is… a LIVE scene with people and the heightened excitement from the artist while performing is something totally awesome! Especially when it comes to this level of professionals like CUTT and Taka!
I have however posted a few below and will post a few videos above after this blog entry.
CUTT has a blog which is here:
http://cuttblog.blog101.fc2.com/
One thing struck me was that when Taka ‘surprisingly’ (no one can have been totally surprised but yeah)… when he entered the stage during ‘CUTT’s individual part’ of the evening, and the audience went super excited for a moment… it struck me as very similar to a few Atsushi Sakurai (BUCK TICK) guest entrances…
the one where he and Kiyoharu performs “Just one more Kiss”
http://youtu.be/LUERKXuaUpY
as well as another such entrance Atsushi did with Abingdon Boys School (takanori Nishikawa) for “Dress” here:
http://youtu.be/zephHrTkhfc
Because in both those cases Kiyoharu and Takanori are both awesome skilled musicians, and artists I also adore and highly respect, and YET when Atsushi enters the stage, there is this sound of awe in the audience and it’s both dramatic as well as an Audiorgasm!
If you haven’t seen these videos before I highly recommend watching them, and if you have you know what feeling I’m talking about!
Well the funny thing is that later this evening at the “RéG”, CUTT and Taka talked about Atsushi and also did an amazing cover of BUCK TICK, which once again struck me as amazing proof of Taka’s genre span and capacity.
His, with defspiral, cover of hide’s “Pink Spider” on their hide tribute “Reply” is perfect… and well I heard him do it live at Club Citta on hide’s Birthday Party last year… and I think that was one of my absolute favorite LIVE experiences! (then take into account ALL the superlative shows I have been to including X Japan, Sugizo, MUCC, Ra:IN, TMR, Kyoji, BUCK TICK, Kuroyume, Luna Sea etc etc etc…..)
if I only could keep one in my memory, it would be the one when Taka sung Pink Spider at Club Citta!!
ha ha ha but luckily I don’t have to.
Either way these two are definitely my favorite vocalists in Japan today! I mean I do like many others like YuI “Vagu*Project”, or Kuroe (HOLICS), or Kiyoharu, and many others…
CUTT and Taka and well I should add Atsushi Sakurai to the list as well are GREAT Voices from Japan…
Taka also blogs… http://ameblo.jp/takavoice/
and you can follow him and CUTT on twitter as well and yes it’s funny cause they actually have a big portion of their tweets sending tweets to each other…
So the evening was OA, then CUTT alone, then Taka alone and then last a portion together. Each part was fantastic, but probably the together part was most fun for the audience as the joked and laughed and really had a good time on stage not just as musicians but more like entertaining. My Japanese is very limited so unfortunately I only get bits and pieces of their jokes but it actually didn’t matter much for me this was a very good evening and I laughed a lot too!!
One question I need to ask CUTT-san at some point about this evening was something about ‘Japanese Standard’ … but if their voices are what’s being referred to as Japanese Standard, then Japanese standard is the number one in the world!
I will post another Youtube clip above this one… or two… even if not from this very night… and hopefully in the future… with pressure from the outside (which is people like you dear blog readers), I will be able to actually take videos and photos from LIVEs like these so that we can spread this outside of the Japanese borders…
@cuttjapan AND @TAKA_defspiral Uploaded (…Together!! (笑))
one of hide’s most popular songs:
“ROCKET DIVE” to Youtube
It’s an acoustic version with both of them singing and playing guitar.
Let this Rocket fly around the globe and be a tribute to hide as well as an appreciation for today’s talented musicians in Japan!
Way to go guys!
CUTT-san @cuttjapan really nailed this one….
Put on those headphones and ENJOY!
